Alabare (ah-la-bah-ray)

"Alabare, Alabare, Alabare a mi Senor"

Alabare is a traditional Mexican hymn that I learned on outreach in Mexico with Youth With A Mission in 1980. Recorded in the 80's on my 4 channel reel to reel tape recorder.

The "drum" in the song is actually a cardboard box that had a good sound. I was thinking of the Beatles' "I've Just Seen A Face" when I came up with the guitar solo. It sounds like a 12 string, but it is actually an overdubbed 6 string playing the same notes an octave apart

Jesus Lovin' Janitors

"We ain't never met the President, we ain't never been in jail. We're overworked and we're underpaid we have to buy our clothes on sale."

In the late 70's I worked as a janitor on the overnight shift at a restaurant owned by a church. The other guys working the night shift were also in their 20's and were also Christians. I worked the whole night cleaning the kitchen, and the other guys cleaned other parts of the restaurant.

Needless to say, your mind needs something to do during those long nights cleaning, and I began writing the song. It's a fun sounding song because we did have fun doing our work and sharing the excitement of being young Christians.

And believe it or not, there are some some spiritual lessons to be learned through the song ("...Jesus loves you when you keep your windows clean...")
